FHT Excellence Awards Nicky Gee with award and LSG attendees

Awarded annually, the FHT Excellence Awards aim to bring much deserved recognition to practitioners working in the fields of complementary, sports and holistic beauty therapy.

One of these awards is aimed specifically at FHT Local Support Group (LSG) coordinators, who volunteer to organise regular meetings in their area, for therapists and members of the public to network and learn about different therapies and other health-related topics.

Nicola Gee is a member of the FHT and coordinator of the Blackpool LSG – one of nearly 60 LSGs that form a network covering the whole of the UK and Ireland. She goes to great lengths to organise monthly meetings for her group members, covering a range of interesting topics –  from deaf awareness, to presentations on up and coming therapies – attracting attendees from Southport, Lytham St Ann’s, Blackburn, Chorley and Cleveleys, to name but a few.

She was nominated for the 2017 FHT Local Support Group Coordinator award by Audrey Dickson, MFHT, a complementary therapist who regularly attends the Blackpool LSG meetings. When putting Nicola forward, Audrey commented, ‘deciding to get involved and set up a group takes time and courage. It requires a character with a serious sense of community spirit. It’s only through dedicated individuals like Nicky that such groups are possible.’

As well as organising and running meetings for Blackpool LSG, Nicola is a crystal therapist and Reiki Master, who has recently established her own business, Blackpool Crystal Therapy, where she offers treatments and training. She also runs jewellery making workshops.

Speaking about her win, Nicola says: ‘I feel very honoured and my thanks to Audrey for nominating me. To think that only a year ago I applied to the FHT to become a coordinator and now our Blackpool group is attended by nearly 50 therapists from all over Lancashire. We have all become great friends – there to support and offer advice to each other, and have a laugh while learning. I have had a great year as an FHT coordinator and look forward to many more.’
