The Professional Standards Authority recently asked the General Medical Council to amend its explanatory guidance on Good Medical Practice. The guidance explains how doctors can put those principles into practice when, for example, delegating care and making referrals.
In response to this request, the GMC has amended its guidance to include Accredited Registers as an example of how GPs could satisfy themselves that systems are in place to assure the safety and quality of care provided to their patients. Please see the section on Referrals at: http://www.gmc-uk.org/Delegationandreferral.pdf_60355614.pdf
The FHT – which has more than 10,000 complementary therapy practitioners listed on its Accredited Register – is delighted by this very positive step by the GMC. To find a practitioner on FHT’s Complementary Healthcare Therapist Register, please visit www.fht.org.uk/register
