Looking after your health is an everyday commitment. Working the Men’s Health Five into your life – and sharing it with others – is a great place to start. And what better time than Men’s Health Week (12-18 June) to kickstart new habits for your health?
Men’s Health Week is an annual event that takes place worldwide, aiming to raise awareness about the unique health challenges faced by men and encouraging them to prioritise their wellbeing. This week-long initiative serves as a reminder for men to take proactive steps towards leading healthier lives.
The Men’s Health Five:
1 Stay Connected
Your mates are important and spending time with them is good for your health. Catch up regularly, check in and make time. Spend time with people who make you feel good!
2 Talk More
Opening up to your mates – and being the kind of mate they can open up to – is a game-changer for both parties. It strengthens friendships, boosts feelings of self-worth and can be straight-up lifesaving for some. See some tips here.
3 Know The Numbers
At 50, talk to your doctor about prostate cancer and PSA tests. If you’re of African or Caribbean descent, or have a father or brother with prostate cancer, have this chat at 45. If you’re a while away from this age bracket, share the info with the older men in your life.
4 Know Thy Nuts
Get to know what’s normal for your testicles. Give ‘em a feel regularly and go to the doctor if something changes between self-checks or doesn’t feel right. See the Men’s Health Guide here.
5 Move More
Up and at ‘em! Do more of what makes you feel good – more of what gets you moving. Test yourself and take part in one of Men’s Health upcoming challenges – it’s all about getting active, feeling great and raising lifesaving funds for men’s health. See events here.
By taking small steps towards a healthier lifestyle, men can reduce the risk of various health conditions and improve their overall quality of life. Let us use this week as an opportunity to encourage open conversations about men’s health and support one another on the journey to wellbeing. Remember, investing in your health today will lead to a healthier future tomorrow.
