FHT Virtual Congress – Jackie Buller and the power of movement

In the lead up to the FHT’s first Virtual Training Congress we have been introducing FHT members to our event speakers. This week we speak to Jackie Buller and Janet Capstick from Go Healthy Steps about her seminar on the power of movement.

My business partner, Janet Capstick, and I met on a course in 2004. While on the course, we discovered our mutual passion for supporting people with their health concerns. We quickly found that our previous careers complemented each other, Janet’s background in Marketing and mine in the biomedical field of Pathology and decided to launch a business together

Working with patients in NHS Lymphoedema Clinics we soon realised there was little emotional support available for these patients and minimal education for self-help. We discovered the Lebed method and began introducing it into our sessions. Starting with help for those with lymphoedema, the programme has morphed into the Healthy- Steps Programme and we branched out into supporting anyone living with a chronic illness or problem.      

The pandemic really affected our business as we were of course unable to bring our classes into nursing homes or our usual support groups. Zoom classes were not an option for people either, so we effectively found ourselves unable to provide a service. We instead concentrated on providing our training courses as movement therapy, it was an ideal way for therapists to learn via Zoom.

Healthy Steps is suitable for all ages and abilities, it promotes good health and can be used in one-to-one and group situations. Social interaction and inclusion between participants forms an important part of the programme.

In our seminar, we will show you how to merge our programme with the work you already do as a therapist, helping you to consider up new ideas as well as to enhance your professional skills.
