The owner of a tanning salon in Flint, Wales, has become the first person to be prosecuted under sunbed regulations.

Sunbed use – the rules in Wales

The Sunbeds (Regulation) Act 2010 came into force in April 2011.

Under the regulations, a sunbed business must do the following:

• Prevent under-18 from using a sunbed on their premises, or selling/hiring a sunbed.
• Ensure a poster warning of the risks of using sunbeds is prominently displayed on the premises.
• Provide appropriate eye protection.
