Goldie Hawn promotes mindfulness for children

Hollywood actress, Goldie Hawn, has gathered a team of leading neuroscientists and educators to create a curriculum for The Hawn Foundation’s MindUP™ programme.

MindUP™ is a learning programme for primary and secondary school children that teaches how to use Mindfulness to help manage emotions, stress and behaviour, as well as sharpening concentration. Goldie Hawn has been instrumental in promoting the MindUP™ program to schools since its inception. At present, over two hundred and twenty schools in the USA, Canada and further afield (including 7 UK schools) now use the MindUP™ programme to promote academic success through social and emotional learning.

As The Hawn Foundation’s signature educational initiative, MindUP™ is anchored in current research in cognitive neuroscience, evidence-based classroom pedagogy, best-practices mindful education, precepts of social and emotional learning (SEL), and guiding principles of positive psychology. MindUP™ is a family of social, emotional, and attentional self-regulatory strategies and skills developed for cultivating well-being and emotional balance. Among the various MindUP™ skills taught to students, focused attention and nonreactive monitoring of experience from moment to moment display the potential to have a long-term impact on brain function and social and emotional behavior.

Hawn has also penned a stress management self-help book, ‘10 Mindful Minutes’, inspired by the programme, for adults and children alike.
