FHT Vice President Caroline Larissey attended the All Party Parliamentary Group on Beauty and Wellbeing (APPG-BAW) apprenticeship showcase event last week on 19 September, looking to demonstrate a range of beauty treatments that benefit wellbeing.
The APPG-BAW, initiated by MPs Carolyn Harris and Judith Cummins in 2019, serves as a powerful advocate for the UK’s beauty and wellbeing industry within Parliament. Through a series of meetings and events, they’ve consistently highlighted the sector’s vital role, emphasising its significance in our everyday lives.

After the event, Caroline Larissey said, “It was great to attend the APPG-BAW event at the Houses of Parliament in London hosted by Carolyn Harris. It was great for MPs to have the opportunity to meet and speak to a selection of talented beauty apprentices from around the UK, learning more about their experiences so far in the sector.
“We also had the opportunity to talk to MPs about current sector challenges, the work the FHT are doing and how the industry could support the NHS via social prescribing”.

What is social prescribing?
Social prescribing provides doctors with complementary and alternative ways to support their patients, such as signposting them to complementary therapies and encouraging them to join activities such as a walking club or booking in for treatments like a massage. Schemes across the country have proven successful in ways to improve the health and wellbeing of patients and take the pressure off the NHS.
The FHT remains at the forefront of the movement, providing patients with an integrative approach to patient-centred healthcare. We have a network of over 10k qualified therapists who could help ease the burden on the NHS by providing a range of therapies and treatments.
