Consumers advised to be wary of online pre-biotic health claims

A new study published in Frontiers in Medicine warns that people should be wary of searching for pre-biotic information online as inaccurate sources are often shown at the top of search results.

Of the 150 webpages evaluated, only 10% of webpages met all four criteria, 40% had a cautionary note on benefits, 35% referred to scientific literature, and only 25% mentioned potential side effects.

They highlight that the majority of webpages that appear at the top of search engines are news sites or commercial websites which tend to provide less complete information.
